Buying and selling is a very emotional process and many sellers and buyers need an intermediary to prevent irrational decisions that could nix a deal. I am able to offer discounted listing fees and also rebates to buyers since I'm not forced to share a large portion of my earnings with my well known brokerage firm. $10k commission paid to list or pay a buyer's Realtor on a $300,000 house is abusurd--especially with our current technology that allows Realtors to spend much less time marketing and the advertising expenses are also much lower on the internet.
