Are You The “Go To Person” That The Media Knows To Contact Regarding Real Estate Information In Your Local Area Market? Why Not? Who Knows More Than You?

I was reading another blog post today by another frustrated real estate agent who was lamenting about the media getting the story wrong as to the viability of the market in her local area. For once, I read a post by a struggling Realtor that actually makes a lot of sense.
She was saying in her post that the media doesn’t know what’s going on in her market and that the media was basically poisoning her prospective clients. Unfortunately she has no idea as to how to combat this dilemma and accordingly is hoping someone, somewhere, will do something about it.

Pssst…WAKE UP!!!

What this agent failed to grasp and what many like her fail to grasp is that YOU ARE THE MEDIA, YOU ARE THE SOURCE! Or rather you should be. If you’re not you’ll be out of business soon enough.

In our market we have positioned ourselves AS THE SOURCE. Clients AND the media seek out OUR take on things. They come to US for answers and guidance. WE ARE THE AUTHORITY!

A reporter is a reporter. When they need information on football games, they interview the players. When they need information on crime, they interview the police. Yet when they need information on real estate who do they turn to? Do they know to call you? Do they know you have the answers? Why Not?

It’s not the media’s fault for putting out information that may be skewed one way or the other. It’s your fault as a Realtor in your market that they did not know to call you!

YOU ARE THE MEDIA IN YOUR LOCAL MARKET!

You should be THE PERSON that they rely on in your market to get the scoop. The problem is that sometimes the news isn’t always rosy and you have to be completely honest. BS the media and you’re done. That scares many from engaging with the media.
