Well it seems that Wyclef Jean is going to make it official. He wants to be president of Haiti. Wyclef Jean President of Haiti? Really? Wire reports say that he is declaring his candidacy well before the August 7th deadline.
In an interview with Time Magazine, Hip-Hop artist Wyclef Jean has confirmed that he will run for President of Haiti in this year’s Nov. 28 election.
“If not for the earthquake, I probably would have waited another 10 years before doing this,” Jean said. “If I can’t take five years out to serve my country as President…then everything I’ve been singing about, like equal rights, doesn’t mean anything.”
It is rumored that Jean may announce his candidacy on Thursday’s Larry King Live once he has arrived in Port-au-Prince from New York.
Wyclef Jean you may remember was involved in a scandal in which his charity was accused of misappropriating funds that were donated for the victims of the earthquake.
Seems like he’s been practicing for his new role in politics. I sure hope this isn’t some kind of stunt. The people of Haiti need real leadership. Not someone who’s looking to make a quick buck off of the backs of oppressed citizens.
In no way am I intimating that Wyclef Jean would be that kind of President. I’m just saying I hope he isn’t…if he were to win.
