In The News- Miss Mexico, Jimena Navarrete Wins Miss Universe 2010

In a huge upset, Miss Mexico Jimena Navarete grabs the title of Miss Universe 2010, with millions watching, she walked down the runway, tears in her eyes, and completely awed by the moment.She has won first place in a competition that was very tight, and left the competitor Miss Philippines, Maria Venus Raj, in fourth place.

Millions of little girls and little girls at heart….and maybe a guy or two watched as the beauty contestants paraded their wares for this prestigious title. Donald Trump is the co-owner along with NBC of the pageant. Watching the fantastic-looking women has been a tradition in many a home for years, it is the 59th Anniversary of the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant.

The new Miss Universe for 2010 is Miss Mexico, Jimena Navarrete, a 22-year-old from Guadalajara. Navarrete beat 88 other women from around the world at the 59th annual international beauty pageant, held at the Mandalay Bay casino-resort in Las Vegas.

As Miss Universe, Navarrete will receive an undisclosed salary, use of a luxury apartment in New York with living expenses paid, a diamond-encrusted crown and jewelry fit for a queen, a year’s worth of designer clothing, hair care products, makeup and shoes, plus a one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy plus housing after her reign ends. Jimena successfully fought off a total of 84 contestants at the beauty contest.

Jimena won at the first place with Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps at the first runner-up. Meanwhile, Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell, who was chosen by fellow contestants as Miss Congeniality, landed on the second runner-up. Miss Ukraine Anna Poslavska and Miss Philippines Venus Raj were at the third and fourth runner-up respectively.

Earlier, five other contestants of the beauty pageant who made it to top ten but weren’t selected into top five were Miss Albania Angela Martini, Miss Guatemala Jessica Scheel, Miss Ireland Rozanna Purcell, Miss Puerto Rico Mariana Paola Vicente and Miss South Africa Nicole Flint.

Miss Universe 2010 pageant was held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip on Monday night, August 23. A total of 84 contestants at the big event, which is co-owned by Donald Trump and NBC, were judged by Criss Angel, the gold medalist Evan Lysacek, Chynna Phillips and actress Jane Seymour.
