Smartphone Sales: Samsung Shipped A Record One Million Units

In the race to sell more smartphones, the company Samsung Electronics, the Android -based Galaxy S units have overshadowed the one million units shipped threshold record held as of last week. And the competition is definitely paying attention.

Companies like Research in Motion and Apple have been watching closely the huge upsurge in sales from 756 thousand units to 10.6 million in the last quarter, according to Gartner’s Reports. The Android-based devices Galaxy S models by Samsung Electronics have relished the greatest growth in smartphone untits sold altogether.

Samsung Electronics this week confirmed that it has shipped more than 1 million of its Galaxy S smartphones since the line debuted in mid-summer, an impressive debut that indicates Android-based devices pose a serious threat to both Apple and Research In Motion in the hotly contested and highly profitable smartphone market with all and sundry scrambling.

And those shipments figure to jump higher later in the week when the Android-based Sprint Epic 4G model is made available on Tuesday.

“Bringing Galaxy S devices to multiple carriers has given Samsung Mobile the opportunity to reach millions of consumers,” Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile, said in a statement. “I am proud of the instant success of the Galaxy S lineup and I am very pleased to announce that because of the support of our carrier partners and loyal customers, we have shipped one million Galaxy S devices in the U.S. market.”

On the sales front, the sales of Smartphones has risen in such numbers so quickly because nearly a third of all cell-phone users are trending toward the Smartphone market. The ability to use applications that allow you to check email, go online and Internet surfing makes the Smartphone market more desirable. For those people who are on the go, an Web-enabled device is the only type of cellular phone that they want.

Samsung said the Android-based devices’ success can be attributed in part to an aggressive ad campaign. The company has advertised Galaxy S phones in the Television market. It also pointed out that its decision to offer the Galaxy S through multiple carriers has helped the smartphones attract customers.

    This is a great phone I just set it up with the TV Everywhere option. I work over at DISH Network and I liked the Sling Media product purchased it and now I am viewing all my content right off my phone. This is a great feature and thanks to the smart phones out there I can download the app and, I’m on my way to watching TV.
