Why Didn’t You Attend The Bloodhound Blog Unchained Event?
May 25, 2008
Okay, it’s been a week. We asked some but with over 1.4 million real estate agents on the planet, we’ve been wondering why more real estate agents did not attend what by all accounts was a very worthwhile and successful event. Why didn’t you go to Unchained? Before we expect everybody else to answer, we’ll answer ourselves.
The entire B&B Crew was excited to attend the Unchained conference but as time grew closer we realized that it was going to cost us in excess of $5,000.00 to attend the event in Phoenix when we took into account airfare, hotels, car rental, food etc…for 3 people to go to the event. We also had a radio show to do which the logistics of which would have been tough in Phoenix and added to the cost.
That’s our reason. Now that we understand that the guys from Bloodhound are planning another event this time in Orlando, you can bet we’ll be there with bells on.
So what’s your reason for not going? We have been monitoring Twitter and loved the “G-Feed” the guys at AgentGenius put up, watched the videos on the Unchained Youtube channel and it really seemed to be one heck of an event.
So it is obvious that there must have been some really good reasons for those who did not attend. Let’s endeavor to find out. Below is a completely anonymous survey / poll that you can answer. We’ll give the guys at Bloodhound this information (we’ll make sure that Sean Purcell approves the data) and let them know what the Realtor world was really thinking.
The comment section is open below as well if you want to also add a verbalized comment in addition to your polling results.
Having executed many events, it’s always important to get impartial feedback on your events. It’s also important before you plan another that you have the public’s assessment of the most recent event. Now obviously this is not scientific by any means and I don’t have some big accounting firm certifying the results, but it should make for very good reading for us all to know why more Realtors did not attend the Unchained conference.
So get out and vote! Let your voice be heard. And here, we’ll even let Florida and Michigan cast their votes as well.
Note: Make sure you pick your answers well. This poll only allows you one attempt. No stuffing the ballot box here! We’ll have none of that hanging chad stuff!

Very cool guys. I love the polls- excellent way to collect data for what an event should be! I love it.
I ended up not attending 1) Because I had a conflict - I am on a board with Women’s Council of Realtors and I had to attend Mid-year. Despite communicating that some may not be able to attend because of the conflict, I was told it wasn’t a conflict because mid-year ended on the 16th.
Well, my attendance requirements ended late on the 18th. I can’t be away from the business during the busy season for over a week at a time (mid-year plus BHU).
2) The upcoming Orlando one looks like it is going to be a conflict as well - since Women’s Council events are just prior to National, on the same day that BHU is currently planned for.
I’ll be honest, Women’s Council has some excellent educational events and frankly, every event I’ve gone to has given me actual
cash in my pocket business within weeks (because of referral networking, not including things I’ve implemented that I learn at the events) - each and every event - not including future potential because of networking relationships I’m developing.
I know web 2.0 is important, I also know that 99% of the clients and customers we work with simply don’t use it to the degree (if at all) that is being promoted at BHU. This is the ‘99′ that Greg always talks about. I have a successful business, so I’m not talking a few transactions that I glean this from.
Additionally, I am very selective in the events I do attend as I already am booked to travel 6 times each year (not including personal time). I want to make sure that I’m paying for and going to the best ROI for my time and money, period. I want to know full detailed schedules ahead of time - allowing me to clearly and intelligently decide if the event is one I should put in my schedule.
I would have loved to have gone… and was going to until my wife decided she needed to go (to Phoenix, not the event) which meant the kids had to go… and probably the MiL. Not that I wouldn’t have enjoyed the gang, but the $1000 for me to do it turned into $5000…
$1000 was a great deal. $5000.. not so much.
The Orlando event is a different story. I know that if I go to NAR that the family is coming down. Not an issue for me to add the BBU even to the trip.
Mary we’re gonna leave it up for a while to see some feedback. Always did this with events and it makes sense to find out what people think.
Lane, same here..it started to add up real quick.
Catherine thanks for the comment. I don’t understand the comment “99% of the clients and customers we work with simply don’t use it “..that seems a little odd. Maybe you can expound.
Barry -
It’s not odd really - the majority of the clients we work with will utilize our website in their property and info searches, but they don’t utilize social networks or read our blog regularly. The only reason we have such a high readership on our blog is because I converted it into a push email newsletter sent out once a week. Very few of our readers even utilize RSS.
The clients I do obtain just from web marketing find us doing searches - and our blogs and sites pop up high in the search - and they then come to us that way - but in the grand scheme of things, the clients we obtain that way are less than 5% of our total business.
I still use twitter, facebook, linkedin, jott, blogs, etc - but I use them mostly if they work to make MY work easier. For example, feedblitz I love because I was able to eliminate Constant Contact and use a source I’m already creating (my blog posts) to push out to our clients and prospects already in our database.
I check each prospect/client to see if they have profiles on facebook, linkedin or myspace and I’ll add them accordingly, but I don’t go onto those sites just to market out - I simply don’t have the time to be answering questions on 20 different social networks for a random lead or two. I’d rather target my niche and less than 5% of my niche even reads a blog via RSS.
The key is - I know my niche demographic - my clientelle. I know where they live, what their typical incomes are, what they like to buy, etc. I also know that right now, the majority of them respond strongly to direct mail, although a small % enjoy email information. Therefore, my push is to get them to read my blog - just like in the ‘old days’ it was to point everyone to our website.
I was very upset that I could not make unchained. Hope you have another event soon!
