Paris St.-Germain offered Beckham an 18-month contract worth $18.7 million when his deal with Major League Soccer expired on Dec. 31, Le Parisien reported. Tottenham Hotspur and Queen’s Park Rangers in England were also reportedly interested in signing Beckham, who said at a news conference at Staples Center that “one or two” clubs in England expressed interest without specifically mentioning them. The terms of Beckham’s two-year deal with the Galaxy were not disclosed.
Ultimately, blood proved thicker than euros or pounds. “Me and Victoria talked about it many times,” he said of his wife. “It was New Year’s Eve when I sat down with my wife and my family. It was made up then. We wanted to continue our lives in Los Angeles. We were too happy to leave.
“We’ve been welcomed with open arms. We’ve been looked after not just by the organization but by everyone that we’ve met in Los Angeles.”
Providing a secure environment for his eldest son, Brooklyn, played a pivotal role in the family’s decision, Beckham said. “Our oldest was a big part of it, as well,” he said. “He’s 12 years old, and he’s at the stage in life where he needs that stability in his schooling. That was a huge factor.”
